From New Orleans to Sub Saharan African to Newham by London City Airport, Black communities often bear the brunt of the impacts of climate change and environmental problems first and worst. As climate change hits home, workshops connecting race and environmental justice [] are happening across the UK and through the international network Climate Justice Action in the run up to the Copenhagen climate summit
We also know that it is the West and predominantly white executives in organisations like the World Bank, The International Monetary Fund and the finance industry who have invested in and perpetuated environmental problems.
Environmental racism is the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on people of colour. Environmental justice is the movement's response to environmental racism. Particularly in the States, and increasingly in the UK, people speak about the racial implications of environmental issues. This workshop will bring together theories, concepts, techniques and people affected by environmental racism to build a movement to tackle this interconnected problem.
