Trailer: Glasgow Social Centre - The Story So Far from Bean There Done That on Vimeo.
No free public space to laugh, cry, plot, get angry and get active about the poverty and destruction which surrounds us? Every space in your town monopolised by companies trying to sell us stuff we don't need. What to do? Welcome the creation of Community Justice Centres such as the 'Glasgow Social Centre' - check the video.
Through creating self-reliant (or autonomous) spaces the potential to transform our communities arises. From a cheap market for the local community to free english lessons for asylum seekers to health workshops, these spaces can provide much needed nourishment to areas dominated by consuemerism. This can empower ourselves and our struggles to fight for our collective rights where we can challenge power structures and reveal the feasibility for change.
Glasgow Social Centre aims to create a safe and healthy space, open to all members of the community, that will operate as a hub for a variety of community and social groups in Glasgow. Working on principles of mutual aid, solidarity and co-operation, we will strive to provide a space which promotes and educates around issues of environmental and social justice.''
