At Sussex University free-education activists and advocates from every decade since the Universities’ birth in the 1960’s came together.
Education budgets are being slashed all over the UK whilst we are made to believe 'education....education.....education' is a top political priority. Do the Government therefore expect no resistance? In the new millennium a long period of quiet on British educational institutions has lulled governments here and overseas into discounting educators and students as a potential political and social force. Students and educators may before have accepted their fate. But when we look into history of how people have fought for educational reform we are reignited in our belief for positive change. For those staring the privatisation of education in the face, the purpose of the project was to share stories of how others before have shaped their direct environment. They inspired action on exactly the potential of what we, the people, can achieve when whilst the Government prioritise privatisation, we strive for decent public services and education. As resistance tactics were exchanged and the success' of student and educators boycotts and actions against privatisation revealed, the ability to keep quiet was slowly running out.
